reading, you're doing it wrong

When there is a class that is required for all students, one would think there would be some sort of guidelines that the teachers would follow so all the students are learning what is needed. When certain classes are drastically different from the others, I can't help but feel that something might be wrong.

First, my class was the only class to be required to buy books. Books that we all had to put a decent amount of effort into getting because the campus book store didn't order them. These books weren't cheap either.

Now, not only do we have to read they books, we have to take notes. We have to type these notes. We have to write two page response papers about the readings. None of the other classes are doing this.

I might tolerate the readings. I might tolerate the not taking and paper writing. However, after reading all the books and discovering they are essentially saying exactly the same thing, just worded differently, I'm kind of really pissed off.

I'm not even sure what sort of point the professor is trying to make. All the things talked about in the book seem like things better suited to freshman, or even maybe students who have just gone through sophomore review. The majority of the book talks about how to learn, how to develop technique, how to get the most out of our time in college, and so on.

I'm a senior. This is my last semester. This sort of thing is doing me absolutely no good. Are they trying to brain wash me into going to graduate school? Because, at this point, I'm only really going to benefit from this if I do something of that sort.

Of course, to top it all off, the professor seems to explain other assignments poorly and never reminds us of upcoming projects or what have you. She apparently expects us to do this all ourselves and refer constantly to the syllabus. This also bothers me. Especially since she wanted us to write a 4 page paper about god knows what and, a week before it's due, informs me that she thinks my topic is inappropriate for the particular class.

WTF? If I'd known this weeks ago, I could have done something about it

End of rant. Just. Gugh
